George.
Yes we have the highest murder rate in the developed world and capital punishment. We also have a population of 300,000,000. The murder rate is high due mostly to minorities and the thousands of gangs nationwide they belong to, mostly killing one another off (that's one plus) I believe 50% of our prison population is black and one in three black men will serve time. I might add gang inmates run most of what goes on in prisons and organize much of what goes down on the outside. Capital punishment works great and would make the scum stop and think (at least the ones with IQ's over 50) if the sentence was carried out immediately. It is not, most killers appear to outlast the victims families. Of course the demise of the scum has to be as painless as possible. Now there is debate and further hold ups due to the way the drugs and needles are used. Let's see Hanging, Shooting, Gas Chamber, The Chair all deemed cruel and unusual punishment. Now the gurney, some tubes, needles and drugs are cruel and unusual punishment. Of course there is absolutely no discussion on the cruel and unusual punishment the victims suffered, or the suffering the victims families go through waiting for years for justice to be carried out. In Oregon the death sentence is only performed if the the death row inmate decides he wants it by rejecting all appeals. Apart from Texas and a few other states the death penalty in the USA is a joke. It does not exist, other than on paper. So George you are right, due to the bleeding heart liberals of this world it is not a deterrent, the rot will continue until the public hopefully reach breaking point and do something about it. Through the courts or otherwise, I suspect it will be otherwise !!! One of the reasons most Americans strongly believe in the 2nd Amendment. Don't think for one second there could not be another Boston Tea Party in the USA. Only next time it will be a revolt against the US Government. Happy Shooting (images that is) Cheers, RG.

Well said, that's about right. I often wonder at the IQ rate of Liberals.

Quote: So enlighten me, how to stop the rot in society before society collapses? for starters we stop by looking for short one line, hard core tactics to kick the poorest, and therefore weakest members of our societies like minorities, social assistance recipients.... We stop locking people up for petty crimes..... we take the money we save on prisons and courts and spend it on rehabilitation, education, and yes social programs. We then take the time, energy, and effort we used to use taking cheapshots at easy targets and focus instead on dealing with corrupt police, government, and corporate criminals. we live up to our responsibilities. period. remember... one corrupt cop will do more damage to our society than all the crooks he puts away in his entire carreer. One corrupt government official can steal way more of your money, than a petty burgular can find in your home. one corrupt company can use its proffits to corrupt dozens of cops and government officials..... Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

Don.
With all due respect, that's total crap. I worked with law enforcement agencies all over the country, including but not limited to DEA, CIA, LAPD, Phoenix PD, Detroit PD and Broward County Sheriffs Dept to name but a few. In 20 years involvement with law enforcement, I never encountered a crooked cop. Yes they are around, however they are very much in the minority. You are way out of line with your comments and do not know what you are talking about. You might want to ask some real front line badges what they think about your pat on the wrist philosophy. You sir and others in your camp are a huge part of the problem, not the cure. RG.

You haven't read any of my older posts about some firsthand experiances.
in my town over the last few years, two officers busted drunk driving, four officers found in possesion of scuba gear stolen from the rcmp, (their employer). one local business man sucessfully sued for harrassment and fasle arresst, leaving a judge to rule the officers involved to be dishonest and un credible. sadly every officer in the detachment says pretty much what you say.... and while not local: http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/05/07/officer.accused.molestation/index.html http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/story?id=3874806&page=1 I don't believe in slaps on the wrist, I believe in prevention. society has to trust the justice system, for it to work. Don,
They are not first hand experiences, they are news items. Come back to me when you actually have a first hand experience in dealing with a crooked cop. Like I stated, they are around. Sounds like your town won the police lotto for hiring crooked cops. This is not the norm, maybe the chief should be fired along with those responsible for vetting future cops. RG.

my personal experiances don't need to be rewritten here... use the search feature....
perhaps my two recent news clips aren't enough.... there was the officers is Sakatoon saskatchewan that picked up a drunk aboriginal off the city streets, drove him out to a desolate stretch of highway out of town in -40 deg weather. He froze to death, and the officers never got charged with murder. Kenora ontario, a local sgt gets arrested for framing an innocent man for a murder the officer's nephew committed.... then there was G.P. Morin, falsely convicted of murder.... David Milgard Falsley convicted of murder.... JJ Harper murdered in cold blood on Winnipeg Streets for being Native... by a cop, then the subsequent cover up involving over a dozen officers that cost the taxpayors millions in public inquiries and several trials with to the best of my recollection NO CONVICTIONS! the winnipeg police officer who defected to the hells angels, and was involved with the gangland style execution of eight members of a rival biker gang on toronto. I don't hate them...just don't trust them, or the system. If you had said YOU are honest, I'd have taken your word for it. But don't hand me any crap about all cops being honest. where did this thread go awry... I'm sorry guys, no more from me on this matter... Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

Thanks again to everyone for thier best wishes.
My response to this whole debate is you have to look after yourself and if that means fortifing your home then so be it . Its the society we live in and we have to accept these things when it happens. A stronger police presence would help if the govt would only stop the cutbacks. Put the cops back on the beat like the old days i say. My local police station is only manned 4 days a week. Now thats just crazy if you ask me. Instead of just slapping thier wrists and letting them out to re-offend i believe in community service. These people should be out cleaning up the community and helping the elderly and invalids. I don't believe in capital punishment or taking the law into your own hands. Preventention, Police presence, education and sterner penalties are what what i feel we need. I took no offence in galoot's comment in fact if it wasn't for the transportation of criminals from the UK back in the early 1800's i would'nt be here Camera:|K20D|K-7|MX| Pentax Lenses:|DA*16-50|DA*50-135|DA10-17 FE|DA18-55|DA40Ltd|DA15Ltd|DA21Ltd|DA35Ltd Macro|DA70Ltd | FA43Ltd|FA31Ltd|FA77Ltd|FA50/1.4|F70-210|FA24-90IF/AL |FA80-320|A35-70/4 |A200/4|A100/2.8|A50/1.7|A50Macro2.8 |A24/2.8|M28/3.5|K30/2.8|K55/1.8|1.7xAF adapter|Tamron1.4xAF adapter| Voigtlander|125mm f2.5 Macro|Vivitar Series 1|70-210 2.8-4| Sigma Lenses:|180 EX f3.5 Macro| Flashes:|AF540FGZx2|RingFlash AF160FC|

It went awry because the subject "been robbed", opens such a can of worms.
It ain't right that ordinary law-abiding folks are subjected to the terror in their own homes of being robbed. The victim of crime today is much worse of than they were in the late fifties, when criminals got what they deserved. Today it is the victim who suffers and the criminal has all the luxuries, even in jail. That is WRONG, WRONG, WRONG and if it continues, society as we know it will go down the pan. To all those bleeding Liberals, we ask the question if you are at home and burglar breaks in, what should the victim do, smile and ask the bastard if he wants a cup of tea and or the number to the safe and all the credit cards and then meekily hand over and go back to sleep? Don't forget there is always the insurance to phone the following day and everything will be alright!

Don,
I believe I agreed there are some crooked cops, however given what they go through every day, they are still a minority given the thousands of cops out there doing a great job, despite the liberal mantra. Sounds to me like you hate all cops, for whatever reason and are having a love affair with real villains. If we all listened to you, no one would ever trust a cop. SPB. Right on. Liberal hand wringing cool aid drinkers are an even bigger problem. We worked very hard for what we have HONESTLY. I will be dammed if I will have some human garbage take it away from us without one hell of a fight. Who would you rather have in your corner a weenie liberal, or someone willing to fight back ? My last word on subject. RG.

Getting this thread back on track. Is there such a thing existing as a Stolen serial number database? If not would it not be a great idea to start one? On this site.

You can of course mark your property with your postcode using one of those UV-visible inks. The trouble with that is that if you want to sell the item at some point the prospective buyer has a marked item. You can actually see these markings without the UV light and it spoils the cosmetic condition of an item.

What I envisage is a new forum category, stolen items. In that a static list, showing Item, Serial Number. We then ask anyone to send via email details of their stolen goods plus contact details. On the forum is just listed the item and serial number. I would never mark items in any way. This way we provide a place for people to view a list of stolen items, so we can check before buying. The list will never be completely up to date by its very nature, but to my mind a list is better than nought. I would gladly collate all the emails and produce such a list if it is a case of willing manpower being needed.
