Quote: About the BW daffs, I don't quite understand why they went grey Probably because he used a different method of converting to B&W, you seem to be using the channel mixer Tim which is probably the best way. Dont Worry, Be Happy.

Oh no, Tim. Do I have to admit I've been found out...sloth has undone me, I'm afraid. When Robbie suggested having just one daf yellow I took the easy option and just sselected and desaturated the yellow ones on the reight. Should, of course, have done it properly. The trouble is with this site is one just can't get away with anything...
Nice conversion, by the way. But I still think it needs the colour popped! Thanks for your efforts, Andrew Best wishes, Andrew "These places mean something and it's the job of a photographer to figure-out what the hell it is." Robert Adams

bwichmawr wrote: Howard, of course you would love daffs! (And the odd well boiled leek, probably.) Hope Gareth doesn't see this! Oi I prefer the daffs mono as the rest of the image. Colour popping can be great, in your images from the boys village that colour pop image in the hall was great and it felt right but the yellow daffs are just too bright in the image. I think it has a time and a place, as an idea have to tried desaturating them slightly so they appear pastel looking, then they won'b be in your face yellow but subdued I like the second also, not your typical composition but it works really well Gareth My outfit Samsung GX10 - Pentax D-BG2 Grip - Pentax 16-45mm F4 -Tamron 72B 90mm Macro - Tamron 70-300 Di LD - Sigma 400mm f5.6 Pentax-M 55mm f2 - Meyer Optik Gorlitz Lydith 30mm f3.5 - Meyer Optik Gorlitz Domoplan 50mm - Jupiter 11A 135mm f4 Metz 48 AF1 - Cobra D650 - 2 x Cactus V2 triggers Giotto GB4180 - Manfrotto 056 head - Extension tubes and some mobile strobist studio stuff ! thoughton wrote: Oh, you explained it fine Andrew About the BW daffs, I don't quite understand why they went grey. When I convert your first image I get white daffs with both a straight conversion and red/orange/yellow/green filter conversions, and black daffs with a blue filter one. This is an orange filter BW conversion of your first shot in Aperture: ![]() If you were to leave the right hand daff on this one yellow, I think it would work great. Because it's all on it's own it looks like it's being "ignored" by the others, but having it in colour would give it an ugly duckling turning into a swan feeling (probably doesn;t make much sense!!). Not sure why Andrew's conversion had them go grey, in that case I think they're better all yellow, but with this one Tim, I think it would work with just one. No longer a Pentax owner... Thanks for all the good advice and spirited discussion guys. Anyone mind if I hang around here a bit (I have use of a Samsung badged istDL if that helps).
