I have been using Apple Aperture quite a bit and it does what it says on the tin. I am only using a Mac Mini, which is a bit slow at times but I can at least predict that it will do what I want. RAW format takes a long time. But I like it.
The only thing that seems to be missing is Chromatic Aberration correction. I have a 300mm lens which would be much better if I could repair its CA, when shooting birds in trees with bright sky behind them. Can someone tell me that I have just missed a button somewhere? My old photoshop doesn't have CA adjustment either and I really don't want to spend any more money at the mo. Last Edited by sophiecentaur on 06/07/2009 - 16:47

Does any software really do that good of a job at CA correction? Even if you missed a button, I would argue that it may not be that worthwhile.
I often resort to manual processing anyway and in most cases I do not spend much more time and effort than fudging over partially fixed images from the automated processing. To me it is nothing more than marketing gimmickry -- one more feature to add to the bullet list. I wouldn't get upset over not having the capability.

Lightroom seems to have it - all that's involved is selectively changing the sizes of the R,G and B pictures about the middle. It can work very well but it needs implementing if you want to avoid a lot of messing about with an image editor. You have to remember to do it before you crop!

ttk wrote: It's a pity Aperture is only for Mac's It's not needed on a PC.... loads of excellent software already available and it would probably need something daft installing such as iTunes before it would work. shim

Coming with 2 licenses is damn useful too. Getting back to the OP, I must admit, I have no idea, there are too many options and I've not used many of them yet! Have you checked out the tutorials on the Apple site, or if there are any plug ins available that do it? I'll have a look in Aperture when I get home tonight to see if I can find anything for you Body: K-7 & Grip Flash: Metz 58 x2 | AF-160 FC Primes: DA* 55 | 100mm WR | DA*300mm Zooms: 10-17 | 12-24 | 16-50 | 50-135 | 60-250 Photos: Gallery

Well, you're still welcome to come down and have a play if you want to, maybe coincide with the Stowe Pentax meet on 16th August?

BTW, I'm loving the iMac 24"
Just wish I could afford to migrate Photoshop/InDesign/Illustrator at the moment... but it will happen (requires upgrade cost and destruction of previous PC versions). Took me about a week to get my brain round the switch. Now I am comfortable in both OSs, but prefer OS X so much more If I never had to see a Windows PC again I wouldn't mind at all now Have yet to try Aperture. Had a quick go on SPDS3 - that was about the same speed as my fast PC. Aperture has the edge with it's GPU usage. Will have to check out Aperture and Lightroom as well on the Mac. LR licenses are dual-platform BTW Matt http://www.mattmatic.co.uk (For gallery, tips and links)

I always thought that you could do a cross platform exchange, didn't realise you had to do an upgrade at the same time though. Might be best to wait til CS5 though as I believe that it is all going 64 bit! Don't forget there is a 30 day free trial for Aperture. Just wondering when V3 is due and wether it would be worth holding on for it!
