COME ON PENTAX WHERES YOUR full-frame

Well the and is that if we are going to make comparisons between different items, then the playing field should be level. We can only compare new prices against new prices fairly.

If we want to compare used prices then we can't fairly compare used for one item but new for the other. Used prices are also more difficult to compare where items are different ages. I suspect there are not many used K-5s around yet anyway.

I thought this would be obvious.

Can this really be true? Surely the APS-C sensor would "see" only the central part of the image circle of the lens, where its resolution is highest. And if the sensor resolutions (in terms of megapixels) are the same, and the image recorded (i.e. image content) is the same, then any difference might be apparent only at the high ISO values, the smaller sensor's noise becoming more obvious there. Even then, with a camera as good as the K-5, would the difference really be so clear that "anyone would be able to tell the difference, even at postcard size"? That seems to be a fantastic claim to me.

There are many advantages to a FF sensor over an APS-C - and very few of them have anything to do with printing.

Many of that full frame 'brigade' are the ones currently jumping ship to Nikon/Canon/Sony so why do you think they wouldn't pay the same amount for a similar spec'd Pentax which would not force them to change systems ?

I think michaelblue is more making the point that sometimes people find they want to complain about what they can't buy, but when suddenly they can buy then they don't. At that point they find a new objection.

It's well known to people to sell. I'd buy it if you had a 600mm lens...well, when the 560mm arrives they may still not buy. "I'll have to give it some thought." And so on.

In other words, sometimes it's just chatter and not really a serious expectation that they will ever have to make the decision.

I'm sure there are a few people who move to a full frame camera, for whatever reason, but likewise there will be a few who move back. I have never seen any evidence that those who use FF cameras take better pictures.

However, that doesn't mean to say I'm suggesting that you shouldn't. If you want to, then go for it.

I don't see what all the fuss is about? What is wrong with the K5?
If Pentax were to bring out a FF sensor, we will know long before hand by the new lenses that would be appearing on the market.

I always remember quotes (not verbatim) from 'pros' both on here and elsewhere - 'why all the fuss about FF? there's no magical promised land'

Personally:

1 : The cost of the Canikon systems is beyond me, even if I'd won the lottery I would be rather annoyed at having to shell out the prices they ask for. It is clear to me they have create a 2 team cabal and they believe photo geeks have nowhere else to go.

2 : There are ways to 'recreate' large sensor images when required (and if the conditions permit.) It may mean a little bit more processing time but vs the cost of a system change......

3 : Size and weight. Big bodies, and lenses that have the shake reduction built in makes them very large, very heavy, (and very costly so Canikon would have you believe.)

4 : Relevance? Particularly having been to a few exhibitions recently, I've noted the brand, sensor size or even lens is irrelevant to the quality/success of the photo.

Like all technologies, I've no doubt spend more money you'll get better quality. But the further up the scale the price performance becomes very much polarized, (unless your Roman Abramovich) you personal have to judge where the best place to sit on the scale is.

All'n'all I'm still of the belief large section of the photo user world put the 'tech' part first, but this only reflects the marketing of the companies trying to squeeze every penny out of them season after season. It is human nature that this 'storm' will play on peoples insecurities and coerce them into further more expensive purchases.

So yeah! Where the god damn FF Pentax!

There is no fuss I asked if or why Pentax are making a Full Frame and there not so if you would like a full frame we would have to buy a canon or a Sony or Nikon NOT a pentax.

I would buy one if they were going to make one but if not then one of the others it is! I would like a full frame for landscapes and be fore any says the K5 I have two but would like the full frame.

Full Frame Advantages

Now that we have a better idea of what a full frame camera is, let’s take a look at some of the features that make them so desirable.

Viewfinder

For me, perhaps my favorite full frame advantage is the quality of the camera’s viewfinder. If you have ever used an older film SLR, you might have been impressed by the size and clarity of the viewfinder. Indeed, one of the shortcomings of crop factor DSLR’s is the relatively small viewfinder. Full frame cameras overcome this greatly.

Now that I have a full frame camera, using a crop factor camera’s viewfinder can feel a bit like staring down a tunnel. If you’ve never had the pleasure of checking out a full frame viewfinder, try to get hands on one. It makes it much easier to manually focus a lens and make sure that your shot is in perfect focus compared to a crop factor counterpart.
Focal Length

An effect that you may be aware of is the focal length multiplier that crop factor cameras.

I tend to prefer the view shown by a full frame camera because I like wider perspectives. On my full frame 5D, one of my favorite lenses to cover weddings with is the 24mm f/1.4 lens. On a crop factor camera, the effective focal length of this lens is around 36mm. To view the flipside, you would be required to find a 16mm lens for crop factor; a 16mm f/1.4 prime doesn’t even exist. In short, fast wide lenses are much easier to come by on full frame.

Puma do a search on Google for hijacked Amazon account, there are literally hundreds if not thousands of cases involving scam sellers on Amazon.

Tell you what, if you are so sure of yourself buy the used 5D MKII for £721 and as soon as it arrives I will happily give you £900 for it on the spot.

Lets see how sure of yourself you really are.
