Help with p70 USB connection

Hi there, after trying a lot of different things to get this working I have conceded that asking here will be the best option.
The problem here is that when I connect my Pentax p70 to a computer, either mac or pc it is not recognised. The light at top flashes to let me know that the camera is connected but it does not come up as a removable drive on either machine. The mode is set to PC as opposed to pictbridge. However, I have tried both and had no success. When I start up acdsee on my mac it does not recognise that any camera is connected when I click the import tab. This is the same as if I try it in preview, or windows photo gallery on the pc. Every solution on the internet seems to be to change the mode to PC, but this does not work. If anybody has any other idea I would be very grateful to hear it. Thanks.

Go to DEVICE MANAGER (if you are running Win 7, type that exact phrase in the search bar at the START window). Now, click on it from the list. This will now display all your devices. If you have anything with a YELLOW WARNING TRIANGLE (most likely the USB CONTROLLERS if you do have), right-click on it, then select UNINSTALL from the dropdown menu. Finally, once you have done all this, click on ACTION, then SCAN FOR HARDWARE CHANGES. If you had anything with the warning triangle, this should bopefully have cleared this problem. Now, connect your camera like you previously done. Hopefully, your camera is now recognised as a MASS STORAGE DEVICE - it may even be named Pentax P70. If not, go back to ACTION from the DEVICE MANAGER screen, and this time click ADD LEGACY HARDWARE (you might need a cd rom containing any drivers - if not, you can let your pc scan for these via Windows Update).
I hope this is of help, and rectifies your problem. Last Edited by steven9761 on 20/08/2012 - 20:08

Thanks Steven. I will be trying that tomorrow as I currently only have access to my mac.
I would also like to point out that in "pictbridge" mode it actually recognises the camera and pops up on my mac to import photos into dropbox. However, it finds 0 photos even though there is 800 on the camera. It is still not recognised as a usb device though. Does anybody know any information about getting the camera to be recognised in pc mode on a mac? do I need to download certain drivers etc? |
