Hi everyone,
Was looking for a first DSLR for mountaineering and landscape photos and intially going to stick to Canon or maybe Nikon but found a virtually brand new K-m with twin lens and lowe pro bag on ebay for a bargain so i'm giving Pentax a go! Have heard a lot of good things about them as well. K-m seems good but boy does it eat batteries!!! I'm guessing i'm missing a trick with that by just sing Engergisers?? John

Hullo and welcome to the Forum!
Don't have a K-m myself, but I understand a firmware update helped reduce it's appetite for batteries. Make sure you have the latest firmware. Also, check out some of the K-m related threads on this Forum. There has been some discussion about the K-m and best choice of batteries. Last Edited by JohnX on 08/03/2010 - 18:19

Firmware is an upgrade to the software that's on your dslr. It's free from Pentax. Have a look at http://www.pentax.jp/english/support/digital/k-m_s.html

I've got a K20D but I gather a lot of users of AA-charged Pentax DSLRs swear by Sanyo Eneloop rechargeable batteries.

Hello and welcome. Hope you enjoy your time here. You do well to choose Pentax: it'll give you lots of pleasure.
Odd about the battery usage. I've a K100D and a freshly charged set of AAs lasts for literally hundreds of exposures. Then when it says it's exhasted I get another fifty! Best wishes, Andrew P.S. It wouod be great to see some gritty monochrome shots of those famous Edinburgh streets. Hi John and welcome....I am a K-m owner....so I have to ask....what do you call "eating up batteries"...how many pictures can you snap before replacements?
I love my K-m....and I am continuely learning ticks of the trade with it. Take a look at my portfolio....as you will see, it keeps up with the "big guns" quite well. I must confess I do seem to be having a itch for more lenses....and maybe another camera.....The itch could be a disease too!!! All things were made by Him; and without Him was not anything made that was made. John 1:3 (Bible) I ponder this as I take pictures of this great creation in live in

Well, got the camera last sat, put brand new Engergisers (they just happen to be in the house) in on sun morn, took a few pics (20ish) throu the week, went climbing on sat past and took about 75 pics, flick throu them on the camera sat night and on sun morn it was dead. I was expecting to get more out of a set of energsers but the camera was in the cold (0/-2 ish) most of sat.
I got rechargables with it so i'll be trying them shortly. As for monochrome edinburgh shots watch this space, i've got a couple of friends who are quite serious photographers who are going to try me a bit. All 3 happen to be Nikon users. |
