Agreed... I've found the Leeds store staff to be well-read and passionate about photography as well as absolutely customer focused...

Never having bought any products from them, I couldn't comment on whether or not the standard (or lack thereof) of customer caare and product knowledge is a factor. Years ago, most retailer, irrespective of what they were selling, had a level of staff training and product knowledge that was "second to none" by today's standards. Nowadays, you either get the uninterested school-leaver or the kid with a university degree in techno-babble working to a "stack 'em high, knock 'em out" regime.

All-in-all, our educational standards have been allowed to fall so low, and things like this (directly or indirectly) are the result. Recently, our company advertised for a courier-driver. Now, it's not exactly a prerequisite to hold some sort of educational standard, such as an O level, but it would help immensely if they even knew how to use a spell-checker when compiling their CV's on a pc!

What are you going on about?- your post is utterly irrelevant to the original post. What on earth has your search for a courier driver got to do with Jacob's going into administration? You seem to be attempting to blame the demise of Jacobs on the young. Baffling.

Are you naturally rude, or is it something you worked hard to achieve? Wind your neck in! I'm as entitled as you are to voice an opinion here!! The whole point of internet forums are to promote debate, discussion, and opinion. Being rude is not the way to counter someone's point, no matter how relevant, or irrelevant you think it is!

not really interested in a running battle, you are certainly entitled to your opinion-never stated otherwise but I disagree in the strongest terms what you were implying in your post. Stand by my comments, lets leave it there.

I bought some kit off them at focus this year, they seemed clued up and very busy. I may also have bought used kit off them at the past. Whilst I hope they survive, I feel that photo shops on the high street are going through a very tough time. Several are in trouble and hopefully they'll all survive.

When they fall into trouble, their only concern is being as profitable as they can be, sadly that might mean they have to drop some brands and concentrate on the ones they think they can make the most profit with.

Bricks and Mortar retail stores will continue to decline as the rise in online purchasing continues.

p.s Old folks will always sigh about "Today's Youth!". They've been doing it since the beginning of time and will continue to do so as long as the human race continues

Always had good service at the Bristol store, good product knowledge, helpful and allowed us to play with stuff to make sure we got the right kit.

Would be sorry to see them go but Jessops survive.

That's very sad news, I also had quite a few items from Jacobs in Leeds, that was the old store before they closed down, they had a guy in there who was very knowledgeable about Pentax too.

I'd never visited the new store after they reopened as by that time I was buying from SRS.

Jessops have their uses. Or use, anyway. Every so often they seem to sell off Pentax lenses cheaply. If you happen to catch the deal at the right time then you're a winner. At all other times I would avoid unless you want a laugh listening to the "expert advice" being given out OK, probably being a bit harsh and I'm sure there are some knowledgeable and impartial Jessops staff... somewhere.

I bought my first DSLR from Jacobs. The staff member recommended the Samsung GX20 as a deal that couldn't be beat (at their clearance price). I went away and did the research to find that he was telling the truth . Made a swift trip back to Jacobs and took him up on the offer. I almost bought a Nikon so I owe Jacobs a big thannk you

I ordered one of those Pentax 'Deals', the 50-200mm they were selling for £49, only to be told after 3 months waiting that it was on 'back order'. After another two weeks I found out that jessops were no longer stocking Pentax!.
Researching the internet I discovered that I was one of MANY people fooled by jessops on this 'deal'!
It took me 3 weeks to get my money back.....they may have their uses to some people but not for me!

Michael

Sorry to hear about Jacobs, but maybe they'll be able to restructure and continue. I've had good service from their Oxford Street branch. I wouldn't buy anything from Jessops or even go into one. The few stores round here have the look of shops which closed a couple of years ago only the staff haven't yet realized.

Odered a lens online and was told it would be in the store in two days time. Went to the store after two days to be told unfortunately the lens had been sent to glasgow but they could have another one in store in two days. This had involved a 30 mile round trip and have never been in jacobs since so I won't miss it.
Regards
Stan
