The lens release button has fallen out of my K5 this morning. I think this has been raised before, but can't find it with a search. Can anyone help. My 2012 luck continues.

Unfortunately mine came from Mifsuds, who not a Pentax Pro Dealer. I spoke to them this morning and they said there was only a one year warranty.

Pentax may fix it for free. Contact Mifsuds Barrie, by registered post, tell them you are well aware of your rights under EU legislation (2 year warranty) and also the UK sale of goods act, and that you are prepared to take legal action in order to persue your rights, make them aware that unless they agree within 7 days to replace or repair the camera free of charge you will issue a summons through the small claims court in order to recover the cost for repair or replacement of the faulty item.
DON'T let them fob you off with returning the camera to JPS, they sold you the camera, it is their responsibility. If you need help drafting a letter drop me a PM. PS; serves you right, should have bought from SRS My Names Alan, and I'm a lensaholic. My PPG link My Flckr link

(And therefore should honour their obligation). Although as stated, they should honour a two year warranty under EU legislation anyway. Get your claim in now - while there still is an EU!

I agree with the essence of what Fatspider says. You should of course keep your tone neutral and factual and not threaten. You may have to take your claim to the Small Claims Court - which is not as intimidating or difficult as it may sound - and if you do you will want the record of your dealings with the company to be one of sweet reasonableness. You will be better off, I'd suggest, If you follow a form letter. There are plenty about. Here's one:
http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/theoneshow/txt/soga_letter_2.doc You have a case and should not be brushed off with this warranty claptrap. A manufactuer's warranty has nothing to do with your rights and the retailer's obligations under the Sale of Goods Act. Mifsuds is in Devon, right? Devonian retailers are as subject to the Act as those in London or Aberdeen.

Camera on it's way to JPS. I'm told, unless they find I've torn it out, the repair will be under warranty.

Camera back, having been repaired under warranty. So a very well done to JPS.
Also I have to say the release button feels a lot firmer than the original ever did. Barrie Too Old To Die Young . This is all very interesting as my lens release button has just dropped off my K5, which I bought from SRS 15 months ago - no sign of anything having broken - so I'll look forward to a repair under warranty. Do we know whether Pentax has done anything about this issue as it must clearly be a design fault? Thanks to all for the really informative thread.

Mine fell off a while ago, it's in for repair under warranty at the moment. I took it to the Pentax Service Centre in Osaka, and they wanted to charge me sixty quid to fix it, which I thought pretty bad customer service. Mathers are getting it (and the wonky horizon indicator) fixed under warranty.

My button unknowingly fell out whilst on holiday, fortunately my wife had found (A Button thing) on the bedroom floor of our B&B)I did not notice the button was missing till I went to change lenses at Devils Bridge waterfalls, as soon as I saw/felt the button was missing I knew what the (Button thing) was. I managed to change lenses with a TWIG which was just thick enough to go into the hole and press the trigger, (I will now always carry a sewing knob pin in my camera bag).
I have read that you can get a replacement button (called a Plunger) from pentax and you can fix the problem yourself. As I already had the button and the plastic/rubber cone shaped washer, I have tried the repair myself. I put a smear of Superglue on the narrow end of the Cone shaped washer/seal and placed it back onto the pin of the button (narrow end down) being careful to not get any glue on the pin it's self. I let the glue go off for a minute and when the cone seemed to be fixed in place I put a smear of superglue around the edge of the wide end of the cone. Then it was just a matter of locateing the pin back in place, gently pressing it and holding it for a minute and HEY it is fixed and feels fine again. I have taked a few photos as I did it if anyone wants to see what the pin and cone look like if they have lost theirs. Hope this is of help to other Pentax button Poppers.
