K5 vs K7 AF speed

K5 has options to select between focus priority and fps priority, more FPS too, so when the FPS is held back by the speed of AF it is still around 5 FPS or so, while k7 is maybe at 3-3.5FPS I did some testing when i had it, but i can't remember the numbers.
in my opinion for horse riding shots af-s is the better options. AF-c only when the horse is coming towards you. EDIT: forgot to mention - all in camera editing OFF! If you are into burst all those tweaks like distortion correction, chromatic aberration correction, DR... they all effect the performance and slow the camera down. It is all individual, but K7 and K5 perform at their best for nature pics in Auto WB and custom image in Bright or natural. And all the sliders at 0. NR too.. k5 has this neat feature to choose when and how much NR to apply. Mine is set to apply low NR after ISO 2000. At values under 2000 it is not needed and easily removed if you shoot in RAW. Alan, yes we agree for the AF... it is not at the level of Pro cameras, but for the average user it is more than ok. Thanks Amplified.
No need to apologise for your english - I certainly couldn't hold this conversation in Bulgarian(?) I'm not sure about focus or fps priority on the K7. I will have a look. Unfortunately AF-C is the only way to go as the distance between you and the horse is normally always changing even if you aren't head on. As you suggest, I do have most in-camera jpg adjustments turned off, just the NR as it is needed on the K7. No luxury of using RAW as this is a numbers game and the least amount of post processing the better. Off to take some cross-county jump shots today so hope it stays dry! Thanks all for the advice.
In the end I have decided to jump ship and change systems. I have now sold all of my Pentax kit (via the forum) and have invested in a Nikon D700 and a couple of lenses. I will miss the compact size of the K7 and 50-135 but having had a chance to play with the new kit I can say that it's all very, very good - full frame and ultra fast AF Now just got to find a Nikon forum as freindly as this one Regards Mark My Flickr - Mark B Images

Congrats Mark, I think if I ever switched Pentax from I'd probably go for that body too.

The D700 is a great camera but you'll notice the weight. |
