Spotted (or rather heard) today and in time for Le Mans weekend.

Mavis is a 1930's racing Bentley with a rather large Packard engine.

The 1st two shots are rather "worrying", smoke-wise, bit #3's excellently captured, catching the moment when the cylinders ignite, all ready for the big race! Well done, John!!

1200bhp! 20% more than the Bugatti Veyron.

Love pic #3

Love number 3.

Hope you don't mind but with a little sharpening and a lift in the shadows you can see a lot more detail.

Also helps if you post a larger size as well.

No equipment list here .... move along the bus please.

I reckon Mavis may appreciate the makeover Mike
K10D, K5 plus plenty of clueless enthusiasm.

The commentator at the Pageant of Power today mentioned that Mavis had been at Media City yesterday. Must have meant Wednesday, I took this similar shot at CPOP yesterday:

There's nothing quite like the sound of a 12-cylinder aero engine starting up, especially on open ports and standing next to it. Lovely, lovely vehicle and if you look at Chris Williams (the guy in the bowler hat) and imagine what kind of car he drove, this would be it.
Real name: Mike Edwards. My homage to seventies Vauxhalls: www.firenza.net

Thanks to all for the comments and thanks to Mike-P for the tweaks.

When I prepped it for Flickr I was a little harsh with the JPEG compression (**).

Certainly an impressive beast, especially so at close quarters in the CPOP paddock. IWMN is a great backdrop here and Mike's tweaks are well judged.

My own shot of Mavis from weekend is non-Pentax but can be seen here.
