Just had a another thought.. Should we be checking the date format on our cameras. Are there American and British alternatives and if so, can we tell from the EXIF data?

I thought you got a choice of date format when setting the camera up from the menu pages and once set it should remain at what you set it at. Regards Stan To My Snaps... PPG

I thought you got a choice of date format when setting the camera up from the menu pages and once set it should remain at what you set it at. When setting the camera up initially you have the choice of dd/mm/yy, mm/dd/yy or yy/mm/dd. Americans will obviously set theirs up differently to Europeans, but it shouldn't be hard to work out that the photo was taken in the month of the competition. It would only be a problem for the first 12 days of any month in any case

That must be why everyone is waiting, to avoid the confusion of the time. It is starting to look like a last few days of the month monthly competition.

I can see there may be images that don't qualify for the judging, but it's really up to everyone to read the very brief rules for the competition.

So what resolution should I be aiming for. Not the usual 800 when entering the fortnightly? Thanks. (I had a look but am probably not looking in the right place. )

Your image will be sized to suit by the forum software. All you have to do is follow press the enter competition button and follow it through. Same with the weekly.

Best to resize the image yourself and apply sharpening as required. 600 pixels is the gallery size. It will take 800 pixels but people will have to click it to see the larger size version, and the smaller version will be a tiny bit soft.

There's a slight misunderstanding here. 800 pixels wide is the size for the forum. The Gallery will happily take larger sizes and I find 1000 wide is ideal. If you make it too large it might slow down loading.

That's not quite right John - upload a full size shot and the forum will resize it to 1000 pixels and compress it to hell.
In the standard gallery view, the normal size image before you click on it for the large version, you will see the image at 600 pixels - further degrading the quality. - If you resize your shot to 1000 or 800 pixels, the large version will look fine, but the default gallery view of 600 pixels will be a tad softer. A competition judege may not have the patience to click on every shot for the large view, so... |
