I bought a new, boxed MX body in Comet, Romford for £65 and gave it to wife No.2- it must have been 1985 or so - she went off with the Vice-Chairman of Barking Photographic Society in 1993 and took the MX+120mm f2.8 Pentx-M lens, so I bought wife No. 3 a cheap Nikon FE outfit and kept all my Pentaxes! (Broke my record- 14 years married and 2 new kids ! )
been a member of Pentax Club since the Ron Spillman era! Got COMPUTERISED at last - DIGITISED? Taken the PLUNGE!

Thanks for the suggestions of what to look for and check on a used MX.
Mine appears to be OK so far, probably the seals need replacing as mentioned. Would it be a good idea to get it serviced ? What does a service involve ? and what would you expect to pay ? Any recommendations as to where to get it done ? I have seen an advert for asahiphoto in the back of the AP magazine, does anyone have any experience with them ? I can see that this will be a cherished camera for life so don't mind treating it with a bit of TLC if needed. Jason K30 & 18-55mm WR.
