I have in front of me a Pentax Q. The camera manual suggests that the battery should be held in place by a small grey lock lever and to remove the battery this lever has to be released. On this Q that lever isn't holding the battery in place at all, the battery is only held in by closing the battery flap.

Is this normal or is it faulty?

Thanks.

Try pushing the battery down as far as it will go, the grey lock should slip into place

Thanks, but no it doesn't. You're implying that it should do?

It doesn't sound right at all. If you open the door, looking from the direction of the back of the camera there is a small grey catch on the left of the hinge. It's quite obvious, so if it's missing you should see the small notch where it should be.

Thanks John, the lever is there however it doesn't hold the battery in place at all, the battery slides right past it. The camera works fine when the main battery cover is closed, but I would think that to remove the battery after opening the cover that lever should require pushing back. But it doesn't and it isn't holding the battery in place at all.

Sounds like it is faulty.

Try giving the battery a firmer push, just in case you're being a bit too careful. If the lever hasn't moved to fully secure the battery, you could try just pulling it forwards in case something has stuck.

With a firm push on the battery the lever should just click into place. It holds the battery securely when in the correct position.

Just updated the camera firmware to 1.01 now. It only took a few seconds, the K-5 update took quite a while if I remember correctly.

According to DPR there are lens firmware updates too to 1.01. Never had to do that before.

Glad it got sorted.

The lens correction works very well - I used this when document copying.
