Shutter count
I tend to upgrade my camera before that

Somebody posted a link, which I can't find now, which shows some cameras averaging well over that number.
My K20 shutter count is 10,540 but if I run it through PhotoMe it says 10,920, which is the actual number, as it takes into consideration shutter activations that haven't taken a picture,
I wouldn't be worring to much about it failing anytime soon, it would be a rare occurance I suspect.

When I had a 35mm, shutter count amounted to either "It's working or it ain't".
Now I have a K200D, I can check the number of times the shutter has been activated and I start to wonder about the life expecancy of the shutter, and what it will cost fo fix when it goes.
So, who has the highest shutter count, and what is the official expected failure point count on Pentax cameras?
You should certainly expect it to last for a long time!
That olegkikin site is interesting, but obviously it is no real guide to how long your own shutter will last. It could go at any time, or last for the whole useful life of the camera.
That's what your warranty is for anyway, and if it lasts 2 years, then it will probably go on for a lot longer than that.
I'm assuming here you're an average user and not a demented pro firing thousands of shots a week!
greynolds999,
Digital compact cameras, as a rule, do not have shutters, dSLRs do have shutters.

However, they are rated for a number of exposures that far exceeds any possible amateur requirement and the cameras are upgraded anyway on a regular basis. The technology of shutters is as perfected as we could hope for, so very few will fail.
How many of us have exceeded 10,000 images before upgrading a body? Even that is only 10% of the rated shutter life.

My DL2 has just had its 17500th click - still going strong (and so it should be!)
Anyone care to top 17,500?
I was just about to but namstoop has soundly beaten me there...
But in reality I'm also worried about it. Its makes my "rate-of-really-good-pictures" pretty low.
