So what can we expect from the Q?

That's a particularly hurlsome colour.

Maybe it just needs a slightly larger bag? I think it's quite impressive when you consider the lens case is the size of a small makeup bag, and contains a standard zoom, telephoto zoom, fisheye, and two 'toy' lenses. Clearly it's just a way of encouraging people to buy all the lenses, when you only really need one or two. (I'd take the fisheye and standard lens).

But not in pink...

The one I'm waiting for is the Adapter K for Q. Enabling the use of K mount lenses seems an interesting idea.

The pinhole lens will also be a possibility. Yes, I know I could make a pinhole camera any time I wanted to, but I never seem to have the time.

The Q seems to be inclusive of people who want to experiment with lots of different things. Lenses are relatively inexpensive and there is a wide variety of experimental shooting styles and special effects.

At some point I would not be at all surprised to see a special complete kit in its own fitted attache case, rather like the nice aluminium case provided for the Auto 110.

blimey that brings back memories.

The Q is begining to interest me.

Please talk me out of it people - I already have 5 slr's and a Canon G10

Sorry Mike, no help to be had, you might as well give in and buy the Q while the going is good. And the price.

Look upon it as an investment - Auto 110 kits still sell well if they're in nice condition.

I just want a good quality wide angle prime, 28mm equiv or thereabouts. More compact than the normal. The Q seems to be crying out for a pancake lens. There is a wa prime on the lens roadmap, but no details released yet. I do have the toy wide angle (freebie) but I don't expect to ever use it, I can do the gimmicky stuff in pp if I want.

An adaptor is an interesting prospect. I will explore the potential of the crop factor for macro and telephoto shots, although I have yet to see decent results. I am looking forward to see how it will perform for moon closeups. However, looking at the price of the K/M42 adaptor I'm sure the official adaptor will come at a high price tag.

The current price is low, must be around cost. Maybe a replacement is on the way.

I'd echo Dr O's comments - a quality wide angle please

The Toy Wide is a bit of fun and is actually very good a close-up shots, but I'm not so impressed with landscapes or group shots.

For those of you teetering on the edge (like I was) - I think it's time to jump. I uploaded this one to the gallery tonight, I'm more than pleased with what it's capable of ....

That is a nice shot.

The fish-eye looks a good lens from what I have seen, and fits nicely with the Q's fun-factor. Some nice street candids shot with it on Flickr.

You've got a K-5. What on earth is the point of putting your K lenses on a Q and losing IQ?

Surely the mounting of K lenses defeats the only raison d'etre of the Q.... compactness.

So I can have a bit of fun experimenting with lenses that really now pull in tiny distant objects, such as small birds.

For example, if I pop my 100mm macro lens on it would give me a field of view equivalent to 550mm on film. A 200mm lens delivers a FOV equivalent of 1100mm. And so on.

Now it is true that magnifying even the centre of a lens so much will challenge the resoution limit, but I want to find out how much of a problem that is, rather than rejecting the notion out of hand. First hand experience of something is much better than reading about it.

Hope that helps.

Frankly speaking I can never understand why UK photographic equipment retailers with their excruciating prices are lagging behind US, Japan and Hong Kong, Taiwan and many other places in terms of camera accessories available for us to choose from? On every trip to Hong Kong and Japan I find big variety of optional and often limited edition premium accessories available (not limited to Pentax). Same goes to Pentax Q accessories. You just go to one place, say BIC Camera in Shinjuku and pick all you want from one place (they even give you loyalty card- much more rewarding than any we know over here). The choice we have here, in the UK is mildly speaking... pitiful, you need to hunt up and down like crazy, spend hours on on-line research and you won't get your stuff any cheaper in the end, anyway ( I have to wait for my camera to be delivered 10 days plus). Just sooo ill-regulated. And this is in London and UK, in general, not in some financially deprived 3rd world country. It seem that local businesses are either inert and un-interested or simply too big to care. I suspect the latter is more relevant. Sad, but true. I would suspect Pentax UK is responsible for stock allocating and co-ordination with regional manufacturers. Truly, they got to shake up and wake up.

There is more to life than resolution.

I think you should put the 3.2mm Q lens on the K5 (equivalent 0.58 cm) and watch space curve in on itself. Just be sure not to break the space-time continuum!
