Back out with the K-5 and Sigma 10-20 (and my wellies) this evening for a shot I've been wanting to do for a while at St. Mary's. Landscape and portrait versions attached.
And I thought I'd chuck a squirrel in from the other day in case anyone thinks I'm neglecting them ![]() St. Mary's Lighthouse landscape by Blythman1960, on Flickr ![]() St. Mary's Lighthouse portrait by Blythman1960, on Flickr ![]() Baby Red again by Blythman1960, on Flickr Alan PPG Flickr

I like the first one. Not a fan of long exposures on water personally, but you have still managed to capture some movement without turning it into cotton-wool fog. The sky is stunning. Did you try one with less water and more sky?

Caught some good light here and the exposure is spot on, keeping the clouds defined whilst showing movement in the water. Good stuff!
The portrait version fares a little better in my eyes thanks to the leading line in your composition. The first one has a little spare space to the right of frame, have you tried cropping it in a square format, losing roughly the right third and a sliver off the bottom? Just tried masking it like that with a bit of black card and liked it The squirrel is my fave though, lovely to see a little red. Site|PPG

Thanks for the comments folks. Use two bodies when I go to the squirrels. K5 with the Sigma 10-20 and the K-x with the Sigma 150-500. This one was with the K-x. Got a couple of new ones with the K5 and Siggy 10-20 on my flickr too, fired with a remote.
With regard to the lighthouse. I like using a square crop. Most of my birds/animals are cropped that way. So, thought I'd offer both portrait and landscape for a change, and lo and behold maybe I was better of sticking to square I haven't got any with more sky I'm afraid. I went specifically to get the water "whooshing" across the causeway on this visit. Alan PPG Flickr |
