stupid questions but...

Has anybody tried the kit lens from a digital body on a film body?
and what was the result like?

Vignetting. as expected. The lens can only be used sensibly on a body that is able to select the aperture on the body. The 'flagship' MZ-S . . . can't use it, but the MZ-6 (and others) can.

Mac's done it - I think there was severe vignetting from 18-24mm but worked fine from 24-55mm. My memory's hazy so I might be a little off; hopefully he'll be around soon to verify what happened.

Of course you'll need a later film body that can control the aperture - it's stuck at f32 on the MX so not much use...

Thanks Hefty, I was wondering about using one of my P30 bodies, would it still be stuck at f32 on them?

I've never used a P30 to be honest...

If you can control the aperture from the body you should be OK, if not then it'll be stuck at f32.

You don't need to sacrifice a film. Just set the body to a long shutter speed, preferably 'B', press the shutter and watch what the iris does.

If you can't set the aperture on a P30 body (I have no experience of that model), you'll end up with the exposure being taken at one of the extremes of the lens's aperture range because the lens has no aperture ring.

Personally, I wouldn't waste my time on it other than out of curiosity. It's never going to be a useable combination.

The odds are your DA lens will work on your P30 film body from about 24mm up. Vignettes badly below 24mm.

I think you have a few K lenses, and I'm sure they will out perform the DA which was never designed for "Full Frame".

I ran a roll through on my SFX and wasn't impressed. The kit lens performs much better on the DSLR bodies for which it was designed.

Don't blow a whole roll on this experiment, have fun with your old primes and just shoot a few using the DA just to see.

Now - as we've discussed here quite often, the reverse (M and K lenses on DSLR) = WOW!

my 18-35 kit lens from my istD worked on the MZ7, with vignetting under 24mm, it was like having a fisheye you can actually see the vignette in the viewfinder too.

Thanks Mac and 'spider, it was when vignetting started, or stopped that I was wondering about. My M lenses only go down to 28mm and I was thinking of playing below that with one of my DAs.
I should have a film in one of the P's in the next few days so, knowing this, I may try the DA at 24mm or below
and yes the older glass on digital......superb!

Except it's rectilinear, so it's actually just a super-wide angle on film. It does cover the full image circle too, just with some very minor darkening at the corners (just had another look at the slides I took with it - the only ones with any noticable vignetting are the two that I'd mis-aligned the cokin filter holder ).

just looked through the body/lens with the shutter open, it appears to have a fully open aperture so...
Think I'll try a film and take a few test shots when playing out this weekend
