1/250th flash synch speeed is very important as I use a lot of outdoor fill-in flash and also need a standard 3mm co-axial flash socket as I get fed up with having to use a 'Hot-Shoe Adapter' for my K10D which very rarely WORKS when my SV, Spotmatic, ME Super, MX and LX HAVE it NO PROBS!!!!

The Sigma I bought is up to 1/180th. The Super model has High Speed Sync for higher shutter use.
I bought a Canon 580 size pattern diffuser for £2.69 off 7 Day Shop (same size as Sigma flash head it seems) and a 2m etre off shoe adapter for £6.99 which has a tripod socket on the extension shoe. Nice that stuff can be done ona reasonable budget if you look around. Bill

Pentax makes good, and sometimes innovative stuff. Its lenses are interchangeable like no other cameras'. As already mentioned, it inevitably suffers from some of the diseconomies of relatively small scale. But where I particularly agree with others on this thread is that Pentax could do so much more to keep its existing customers informed of/interested in the brand. It has my email address, yet I've barely ever heard from Pentax. They are not making good use of a cheap marketing resource ... compare their approach with other companies you may deal with. So, while I'd have some questions for their techie guys, I might slip in the thought that even if they proposed offering us the moon tomorrow, they might have trouble selling it with the current marketing operation.

You might need to re-register. I think some of Pentaxes mailing list is faulty. I got the recent DXO prize draw email OK and news of all the compacts before Christmas. They also post stuff on their Pentax UK Facebook page.

NO reply from Pentax/Ricoh, since this tread started on 08/02/2012.
Suppose there reply is to increase prices instead of any interaction with users.

Firmware updates, supplied ready loaded on to an SD card, that would just upload into camera, at a nominal cost of course.
For camera owners that are not computer savvy. I am sure if just one camera manufacturer were to do this, the rest would follow. Take care. Chris R. I. El. (Eng). (Rtd).

I reckon there's no chance any of them would do this - other than at exorbitant cost. But Chris, if you asked, I expect there would be a never-ending rota of people here who'd be more than happy to do this for you at no cost at all other than postage. If you'd like to PM me, I'll send you my details and you can send me a stamped addressed envelope with a blank SD card in it. I'll put the firmware on it and stick it back in the post to you. . First may I thank you for the offer to load firmware update onto a card for me, that is a very kind offer and is much appreciated, but I have found a person local that will do it for me, (our painter and decorator ?) he has done a couple of firmware updates including a Pentax K10. Very good for a (C**on) man I think. You may recall that I have posed the question of firmware updates before, its one of my hobby-horse/soapbox subjects, and as Peter Bargh, asked the question, for suggestions to put to the Pentax technical team, I thought it was to good an opportunity to miss. I do realise however, I am probably peeing into the wind. Many thanks again. Take care. Chris R. I. El. (Eng). (Rtd).

I'd like to see an on-line database of warranty repairs. When your bit of kit goes for its warranty repair you get sent a link and a password to an on-line repair database which shows turn round times and where your item is in the system. If any manufacturer is prepared to do that, then I'll support them with my cash. Don't suppose anyone will take up the challenge though.

They are daft not to as it cuts out the phone calls. I do this for clients quite a lot and everyone is a winner - including me of course. Give people information and they'll be a whole lot happier and less inclined to moan.

First of all I'd ask what is the Ricoh short and long-time strategy for Pentax as a brand and some assurance it is not going to repeat the history of Konica Minolta + Sony.
That would be the best assurance for my (and yours) future investments in the brand's products (give or take £1.5- 2K on my side, personally in the next year or so). Multiplied to a large number of Pentax users and people considering to invest in Pentax products- we NEED forward assurance that the Ricoh people understand this and are willing to play honest and open. Would be great to know some plain numbers if possible- it will indicate how seriously Ricoh values Pentax. Then I'd want to ask why so little publicity for very able/ unique and competitive products of Pentax is given and is there any chance to improve that and when. I have a very strong impression that Pentax users group is very much alive and kicking, very eager to invest, and I believe professional users would definitely contribute in research and development. Ricoh/ Pentax can and should (if not absolutely must) use this potential to become a very unique brand where dedicated marketing and lifestyle brand ambassadors are seriously and strongly involved/ allowed and encouraged to participate in the brand's growth and development. That would cut a lot of costs greatly and will result in developing utmost competitive product that we need with as little imperfections as possible. Strong link of the manufacturer with the consumer in terms of development is a good opportunity for Ricoh/ Pentax to secure a new, much stronger market position.
