Recent reports of the Ricoh name being used for future compact cameras from Pentax Ricoh, and the Pentax name being used for Digital SLRs, may not be the direction that the company take, according to Pentax UK.

An article posted in Japanese on digicame-info (Source: Photorumors.), has suggested that the Ricoh brand would be used for future compact digital cameras, such as the Pentax Optio range, while the Pentax brand would be used for all Digital SLRs. However, when we spoke to Steve Sanderson, of Pentax UK, for clarification regarding the article, he said that it was just one of the options discussed in the article.

"The article is part of a wider interview where many issues were discussed. The product branding approach highlighted by the article is one option that was discussed but the final decision has not been made."

Pentax recently introduced the new weather-sealed Pentax K-30 Digital SLR and compact Pentax Optio LS465.
