I think this is a Polyanthus flower bud poking up through last night's snow.

It is very small being only about an inch tall.

Pentax K-5 with the Samsung equivalent of the DFA100 macro
1/160sec, F18 & ISO800.
Hand-held, manually focused and using the on-board flash.

Slightly cropped using PSE10.

Many thanks people for all your kind comments.

This flower was very small and not easy to see. I initially missed it completely. It appeared as an interesting little red dot in the background of a shot I took of a blackbird in the snow. Further investigation, and a lens change, was needed to achieve this picture.
